Skycon, the University of Limerick Conference on Computer Science, was originally organized and hosted by University of Limerick Computer Society (Skynet) as a celebration of the society’s 15th birthday in 2007.
|
||

To mark the society's 20th birthday, on the weekend of the 6th and 7th of October, we will be holding the third Skycon.
|
||
Keynote speakers include Mark Shuttleworth, entrepreneur and founder of Canonical Ltd & Randall Munroe, writer and artist of http://xkcd.com.
|
||
The conference will encompass many diverse interesting areas relating to computer science including cloud computing, open source software, mobile development and game development, etc.
|
||
If you book accommodation at least one week in advance, you can get twin rooms in the Travelodge from €39 per night.

Up to 200 people will converge at the University of Limerick over the weekend of 6th & 7th October to discuss high tech topics like Big Data, Games Development, OpenSource, the Cloud, and even web comics!
|
||
|
||
Skycon ’12 will focus on emerging areas in employment and technology including cloud computing, open source software, mobile development and game development, etc. It’s the unmissable conference for anyone in, or seeking to get into, Ireland’s booming tech sector.
|
||
|
||
One of the keynote speakers is Randall Munroe, an American webcomic author and former NASA roboticist as well as a programmer, best known as the creator of the webcomic xkcd - http://xkcd.com/. Another speaker you won't want to miss hearing from is Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Ubuntu a popular free operating system for desktops and servers. Mark Shuttleworth is also known for being the first South African in space. Liam Ryan, the Managing Director of SAP Ireland will also be giving a talk.

The two-day event will feature guest speakers from cutting edge technology companies. You will hear from people who are involved in game development in Ireland, SAP, HP, IBM, Facebook, VMware, Red Hat and many more.
