Hi @everyone
Well today failed in spectacular fashion, hope ye enjoyed the chaos!
Thanks to some [Dwarven Rock](<https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Wind+rose>) things got sorted out.
Thanks to ``esy`` for the help in testing it.

Slides: https://public.skynet.ie/slides/skynet/
I've also updated the database for the discord bot so ye can use ``/link`` in <#1153109633980964905>
Tomorrow I'll do a post mortem to outline what went wrong, why I wasnt able to solve it during teh event as well as what solved it.
One goal of it would be how to tackle it better in the future if it or something like that occurred again.
I'll pop the link here when I have it done.

## Overview
New committee members!
### Requirements
None
## Promotion
### Email
```
Heyaaaa everyone!
First, I apologise for this long email.
Second, I want to welcome everyone to the Computer Society, whether you are a returning member or have just joined us.
It looks like this year there is going to be a lot of fun!
Next week we will be having our annual AGM where we vote on a new committee, and we really need you all there as your vote is important.
Date: Wednesday the 4th of October
Location: Room 3 SL Building
Time: 18:00 until 21:00.
The committee is split into three main groups: Core, non-Core and then the Skynet team. The Skynet team is the only thing that we dont vote on and is made of the Senior admin and some Junior admins.
The Core positions include President, Secretary and the Treasurer.
• President - The main contact point for outside the society and liaise with C&S and head of the society. Also Chairs meetings and sets the agenda.
• Secretary - Takes minutes at meetings and distributes to members. Helps with the day to day running of the society and at events.
• Treasurer - In charge of the finances of the Society and makes sure the budget is made for the end of the year.
Wed recommend previous committee members to go for these roles as previous experience is vital for the core roles of the committee. So, if youre new to Clubs and Societies committees then the other roles are great roles to gain initial experiences.
The rest of the committee positions are the non-core positions.
• Events - help organise events and make sure people are there to help bring equipment to events and that a room is booked.
• PRO - Emails, Instagram posts, make posters, take pictures
• PRO Assistant - Emails, Instagram posts, make posters, take pictures
• Programming and Technology - Organise technical events e.g. Code-off
• Health and Safety and Equipment Officer - keep stock of our equipment and keep an eye on the society's health and safety at events.
• First Year Rep - Engage with first years and bring concerns to committee
These are all great roles to gain experience and to have a big impact on the running of the society with not a lot of work required.
The people that held these roles will also give a quick summary of what the role involved.
Also, the most important thing of this event: free pizza! So, make sure you attend if you want to have free dinner that day. Also, we might go to Scholars afterwards.
-------
Kind regards,
002111 011010 011001 010220 011002 010211 001012 011022 011010 001012 011022 010212 010220 011021 001012 011001 010202 010202 011022 010220 011002 010211 001122 001012 010220 011022 001012 010210 010220 011000 011000 011021 001012 011111 011010 011100 001012 011102 010220 011022 010212 001012 010201 010202 011022 010202 011020 011001 010220 011002 010121 011022 010220 011010 011002 001201
[EVENT ALERT - The Missing Semester]
All alone on a Wednesday night? Boy do I have a conveniently timed event for you!
We are now entering week 5 of the semester, take a break from those looming deadlines by... you guessed it! Learning! BUT FUN!
Lead by Morris with assistance from Brendan, they'll do their best to give a simple, concise and fun overview of topics within Computer Science that are rarely covered in college. It's almost as if there is a missing semester. Wouldn't that be a cool name for an event of some sort.. Anyway, moving on. This event is not limited to only people with Computer Science knowledge. If your future career uses any sort of technology or project management, then you are almost guaranteed to run into these somewhere in the future.
Topics covered in this event include: IDE's, Git, WSL2 and file organisation (folder structure). We swear everything will run smoothly this time. If you too have an innate hunger for knowledge then this event is perfect for you. We hope to see you on the 11th of October at 6:15pm in Room 3 of the Student Life building!
It's week 7 and the number 7 kind of looks like a flag if you squint REALLY hard, so we're having a Capture The Flag (CTF) event!
This will be an interactive event where we use the terminal and a combination of commands in order to get a "flag" which progresses us up through levels. The main goal of this event is to give people an understanding of how to SSH into a server, navigating file structures, other basic commands and concepts are which are useful in a terminal environment.
NOTE: a laptop is required to participate
Hi @everyone ,
As you know, Halloween is getting closer and closer (although if you go now to any shop they have already Christmas decorations...)
We are planning to do a special event where we will watch a film related to Halloween. They are not too spooky so even if anyone gets scared easily (like myself) you'll be more than fine.
There is a shortlist of films for you to choose.
They will be in English (with English subtitles so everyone has fair accessibility to it).
Please, just react with the emoji that is to the right of the film you are interested in. You'll have until Sunday evening to vote.
The films to choose are:
Donnie Darko 🐰 | Corpse Bride 👰‍♀️ | Nightcrawler 🦀 | Rocky Horror Picture Show 👄 | Scary Movie 🔪
Hello all PyCon goers!
This email contains important info about this coming Saturday so please read carefully.
First of all, bus times. Please show up 10 minutes before the below times to account for early buses. The time that we will be taking the bus from each bus stop to Dublin has changed to:
5:10am from Arthur's Quay bus stop
5:25am from UL bus stop
5:30am from Annacotty bus stop
Later this week you will be sent an itinerary which will outline the plan for the day.
We will also be creating a custom role in our Discord server for PyCon attendees. Those with this role will be added to a private channel on the server so that we can all communicate efficiently in one place. Please ensure that you are in the Computer Society Discord server! Here is the invite link: https://discord.skynet.ie
Finally, onto the weather. It is forecast to be cold on Saturday so be sure to wear the appropriate clothing. Rain is unlikely to fall on Saturday thankfully, but bring some backup socks in case there are deadly puddles; nobody likes soggy socks.
We look forward to seeing you this Saturday!
Hello! We are entering week 11 of the semester so let's shake it up a little.
This week we will be having a collaborative event with the new Games Dev Society to help them get word out about what they have to offer, so please come along if you are interested! During the event, a Games Dev Society committee member will give an introduction to basic game engines such as Unreal Engine, Godot and, COUGH. Unity. COUGH. Oh sorry my mouth is kind of dry. Anyway. They will also go over some lesser known game engines such as proprietary and hobbyist engines!
"Dear Leo, why is Unity in the recycling bin," you may ask. Unfortunately, I am not taking questions at this time. Thank you for your inquiry!
As per usual this will take place on Wednesday in Student Life Room 3, look forward to seeing you there!
Hi @everyone
Our annual Advent of code starts in <t:1701406800:R>!
Advent of code is an advent calendar of coding puzzles.
These start off easy enough that ye can do it in pen and paper and slowly ramps up as Christmas approaches.
It features a fun, humorous story line to give context.
Past puzzles have involved creating a working computer (2019) and a 6x40 1 bit TV screen.
Someone even ran [Bad Apple](<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EevY4szGgQI>) on that TV
A few folks I know do all 25 days in excel.
Its a good opportunity to explore a new language or to polish an older one.
Full details can be found in the forum where we will have a daily post: https://discord.com/channels/689189992417067052/1049057874925604975/1049057874925604975
